A List of the Best Cornwall Galleries You Need to Visit

For great art you need great light - and we have that in Padstow and the surrounding areas – we have it in droves!

We’re very blessed with not only the ideal light for great art and photography, but we’re awash with fabulous art studios and talented artists who either call Cornwall their home, or choose to create or promote their art here.

If you’re a fan of art galleries, then make sure to check out these stunning galleries in Padstow and the surrounding area. You might need to come back and stay in Padstow again, but’s that’s not a bad thing at all!

Beyond the Sea

This wonderful little gallery in Middle Street was founded in 1994 by owner Demelza Prettejohn after a long career at Laura Ashley.

With strong links to London with regular visits to the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, they’ve gained artist such as David Wheeler, Debbie Lord, Yvonne Coomber, Kate Richardson, Michael Sanders, and Caroline Walker.

They say; “We have a great following of regular clients and always look forward to welcoming new clients and our regulars year after year.”

Quay Art

At Quay art on the Quay Parade in Padstow, you’ll find a wide range of original artwork plus some limited-edition fine art prints. Head here for fine displays from local, national, and even international artists, as well their very own artist in residence, Susi Whittaker.

They say; “We’re an independent art gallery and source our work from a variety of art publishers as well as from artists directly.”

The Drang Gallery

Now in their eighth year, The Drang Gallery remains a proud independent space for contemporary art, with some original and collectable works too. Drang have two galleries in both Padstow and Salcombe.

Drang takes its name from the German word which means ‘Urge’. Because “buying art requires an urge…!” obviously.

They say; “We’re committed to displaying the best and newest works”.

The Padstow Gallery

This beautiful gallery on Lanadwell Street in Padstow focuses very much around the concept of 'edges' and 'boundaries' in their artwork on display.

Art is 100% made by hand and demonstrates an obsession with detail, style, and quality.  

They say; “We celebrate where the land meets the sky. A celebration of the flora and fauna of our countryside, and ruggedness of our natural coastline.”

Whistlefish Gallery

This is a great place to grab those unique greetings cards, arts, gifts, and wonderful stationary. Founded by artist Lyn Thompson who fell in love with the idea back in 1991, everything here is designed, printed, and hand-framed.

They say; “We support artists locally and nationally and handpick a selection of our favourites in traditional, contemporary and modern artistic styles.”

Jo Downs Glass Gallery

Jo Down is one of the world’s most well-respected fused glass designers. Jo works from her Cornwall studio and draws inspiration from the Cornish coastal landscape. After setting up her studio in fashionable Muswell Hill in London, she relocated to Cornwall in 2001.

Jo says; “Everything is cut, crafted, fired and finished right here in the heart of Cornwall.”

The Padstow Studio

This wonderful space is artist-run after being originally opened in 2006 by the landscape painter Sarah Adams. The gallery is a mix of Sarah’s work and pieces from her circle of friends and artists with whom she’s studied.

They say; “The gallery exhibits a constantly changing selection of contemporary paintings, drawings, ceramics and works in bronze, and aims to give visitors the opportunity to engage with and follow the development of individuals who interest them.”

Picture House Gallery

If you’re after a gallery with fabulous views, then this is it. With far-reaching views across the Camel Estuary, Picture House is the perfect venue to host their bright and colourful displays. They play host to a wide range of limited editions and original artwork.

They say; “The Picture House Galleries, Padstow is a unique little taste of the Mediterranean in the character Cornish fishing village of Padstow.”

Driftwood Contemporary

In the area for nearly 20 years, this small, friendly and family-run gallery brings you the finest art from some of the nation’s most-loved artists. They have locations in both Padstow and St Ives.

They say; “For nearly two decades this family business in the southwest of the UK has been displaying stunning artwork, bronzes, glass, and jewellery.”
